Hey, wait, what's going on? ([info]mycenae) wrote,
For some reason- I don't know, call it neo-nostalgia- I decided to read Raymond E. Feist's latest trilogy "Conclave of Shadows". I was sorely disappointed by the lack of snark. Now, I realize that there never was any snark in these books to begin with, but I can't help feeling it should really be there. I mean, what we have is the story of an ongoing battle against Evil, or the god of Evil or whatever. And it goes on. And on. For many, many lucrative series.

Sure, he puts in a lot of new characters and we get to explore their little bits of the world, but it always comes back to the same cast of super-powered regulars who must work against evil. Except no one seems to find it funny! It's all very "The world it going to end!" but no one ever looks up and goes, "Again? What number apocalypse is this?" I mean, it seems like after a century of this, they'd find it funny. I'm not asking for much... just a little snark. Like, who the hell named it the Conclave of freaking Shadows? I mean, I read that, and I try to picture all these powerful characters sitting around trying to think up something to call themselves. Personally, I think they should have gone with "Super Best Friends", cause that would be just awesome. "I've got to get a message to the Super Best Friends! The world is going to end!" And they could be all, "Put it in the box, we'll look at it after lunch."

And now I've wandered off reading Buffy quotes... to, y'know, fill the snark void.
